Mission Statement

Woman Vision was founded in 1993 to promote tolerance and equal treatment of all people through the production and use of educational media, including video. Through diversity trainings, lectures, and other educational outreach programs, Woman Vision promotes understanding and diversity as values, and provides positive role models and supportive images of societally marginalized people.

History

In 1993, Dr. Dee Mosbacher, motivated by the gay bashing and anti-woman focus of the 1992 Republican National Convention, founded Woman Vision to counteract the right's extremely well funded and misleading anti-gay media campaigns. Dr. Mosbacher, a practicing psychiatrist in San Francisco, understands the kind of suffering caused by homophobia from a psychological and psychosocial point of view. Her vision as a film-maker comes from her consciousness as a psychiatrist. She believes that showing transformation - modeling people taking on difficult issues and changing - is the most powerful educational tool you can provide.

Woman Vision has produced three award-winning educational films (including the Academy Award Nominated Straight from the Heart and All God's Children, selected Best Documentary at the 1996 National Black Arts Festival. These films are used as the cornerstone of outreach programs that facilitate meaningful dialogues about prejudice and social justice.
